Exploring Patterns of Nature: Botanical and Bird Inspirations from the Bush
2019-2024
Hand carved lino

This series is an ongoing Project to celebrate the distinct beauty of our native birds and flora, working to capture the patterns and intricate connections within nature.  Taking time to sketch while outdoors immersed in the bush allows me to become attuned to my surroundings. These prints aim to highlight the delicate interplay of form and texture that defines our unique Australian environment.

Like many people, being in nature restores me to myself, and birdwatching in the bush is an important part of my practice and inspiration. The Varied Sittella is not a common bird to see, to my great delight they often come and visit my garden where there are still mature Eucalypts around supporting the population of these and many other local species.

The Southern Boobook Owl has an easily recognised and distinctive call. This print was made in honour of a resident owl who lived many years in our garden, enchanting those lucky enough to catch a glimpse.

This work celebrates the important connection between habitat and conservation of species. The native Callitris Pine was once common throughout Adelaide, providing essential foraging and shelter for many birds including the White-browed Babbler.
